COMMITMENT! Yikes!

Did I hear someone say commitment?

commitment

noun

/kəˈmɪtmənt/

  1.   [countable, uncountable] a promise to do something or to behave in a particular way; a promise to support somebody/something; the fact of committing yourself.

How ironic that countable is the root word since accountability and commitment are two of my favorite words! NOT! Probably because neither of them ARE EASY!

1)COMMITMENT

A handshake is a form of commitment

Committing to something hasn’t been easy for me.

I find it easier for me to commit to do something for someone else then it is easier to do for myself.

If I want to lose weight and to be more physically fit, I will have to commit to myself to make some different choices.

Or if I want to live my life exactly how I am and feel exactly the same as I do now, well then I am doing a great job and I will continue doing the same things.

But if I expect different results then that is why they say that is the definition of insanity!

Do I want to stay the same as I am now?

No! After taking no time to ponder, I definitely don’t want that!

I don’t want to stay the same and to be stagnant physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, etc…, like I feel that I have been, but I want to grow and better myself every day in all aspects of my life. I also want to be a better person to myself, and others and I want to be able to help people in any way that I am able, but in order to do that, I need to work on myself.

When I say keeping a commitment to myself, I mean doing what I say I am going to do. If I say I’m going to start getting up earlier, sticking to a schedule, or eating better, those are commitments to myself that no one else is going to do for me.

Keeping commitments to yourself is the ultimate act of self-love. Staying true to your word shows that you value your own goals and desires. You are capable of upholding the promises you make to yourself and making your goals and dreams a reality!

WAHOO!

It feels great when we keep commitments to ourselves!

2) CHOICES!

BEING AWARE AND Making INTENTIONAL CONSCIOUS CHOICES!

I really want to make as many good choices as I can everyday! I want to be better and happier with myself and feel like I am making progress on the goals that I really want to reach in my life. I have read and heard enough to know that the end result that we want in anything is reached when we make the daily and conscious choices that will help us reach them. Those choices turn into habits if we do them consistently enough, but it starts by me taking one baby step at a time so I can be a better version of myself everyday!

I am making a commitment to myself to

work on making better moment by moment choices everyday

that will help me reach my goals and live

the life that I would like to live!

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” ― Albert Einstein

Instead of dreading and thinking in terms of a commitment as something negative, I am going to change my mind set on this and I am going to embrace my commitments and look forward to completing them and how much better I will feel when I do.

I need to keep the end result in mind and how good I will feel at the end of the day when I make better daily choices and actions!

And for this week,

I signed up on New Year’s Day for a June mud run. I was planning on getting in shape for it, but I didn’t work out like I had planned. I had walked and done some calisthenics, but I wasn’t in the shape I wanted to be in when June came around. Also, a friend that was going to do it with me wasn’t able to, so I decided that I wasn’t going to do it either. If it wasn’t for my husband and son talking me into it, I wouldn’t have done it. With their encouragement, I did complete it along with some help from some really nice people who were doing it too. They encouraged me to keep going and finish the course even after struggling throughout the course and falling down a few times, I did FINISH!

I remember how good it felt when I did complete it.

&

I want to try and remember that feeling!

Another commitment that I made with a couple friends was to walk in a half marathon fundraiser. Even though it was a commitment to walk that distance when none of had ever walked that far especially at one time. But we had so much fun walking and talking while we were supposedly training for it, and it felt great when we completed it together! It was so much fun especially when you share it with great friends!

Like the following commitment I made for an exercise class that was 2 days a week for what I thought was for 6 months, but when I went to sign it, I found out that it was a year commitment. I almost didn’t sign to do it and when I think back and look at some of the photos from it, I can’t even believe that I even thought twice about doing it! I had so much fun and have made lifelong friends from it while getting a good workout in until covid hit and all that went to he**!

I just want to add that I realized committing to something doesn’t have to be something that I dread especially if it is something that I can look forward to!

I started tracking a few choices that I want to make as part of my daily routine and thought it would help me to document them so I can keep track of my results and I will post them to help keep my more accountable to myself.

3) CONTAINER

3) My “C” word for the B.O.B. this week is container.

I read this recently about putting together your B.O.B. It said if your mind is your most valuable resource in deciding how to plan, what to put in your kit and learning and knowing how to use your items, then your body is your most valuable tool in executing and using your items! Also, your body is your beautiful container that contains all of your tools and equipment that holds everything so the better you take care of it the better it works for you. So, it said that it is important to keep both in the best shape possible! All the more reasons for me to work on getting in better shape both mentally and physically! Our bodies are our containers and that is why it is important for me to get in better shape!

I am going to look for a backpack that will work for me, but for now I am going to use this overnight carry bag to put all my B.O.B. items and then see what size backpack would work best for me.

Since this kit is based on leaving your location of danger to a place of safety, it is best to have it in a container that you can grab and go. Ideally a backpack that frees up your hands to do other things, but use what you have, whether it’s a garbage bag, pillowcase, plastic bin, suitcase, etc., and you can always change it anytime if you choose, but anything will work so we are more apt to do it.

Four things to look for in a container if you are able is for it to be durable, to have compartments so it can be as organized as possible so you can get to some items you might need quickly, water resistant so all your items do not get wet and comfortable for you to carry so it doesn’t strain your back and hard to carry especially if you have to carry for a long distance.

Some photos of some containers that can be used, but some cute ones too!

I think you get the idea!

I would like to add that there are many “C” words that I welcome, like create, courageous, confident, cheerful, calm, clever, change(good), conscious choices, complete, congratulations and most of all, I want to clarify that I am not afraid of commitment any longer. (Well, most of the time)!

In fact, BRING IT ON!

Did I just say that? Damn! I guess that means I need to do this! Let me rephrase that, I want to do this!

OK then, let’s do it!

IT’S GAME ON!

Wow look at this!
